In this pose the model was actually seated and reading a book. I find myself often changing the flow of the flesh to best suit my particular style and to achieve the energy and movement I feel the model is truly experiencing on one of many levels of consciousness and reality.

One of a series of figure studies I've begun doing this year (2006) which I am calling "Children of the Soft Machine". Yes it's far from traditional figure drawings. I sometimes find that when I'm drawing the figure and trying to get all of the little details right and the exact proportions, etc, I get frustrated. In my opinion creating Art is not about being frustrated. So I take a step back, relax, and begin again from the shoulder with soft, wide, smooth lines, and then the Children of the Soft Machine are born.
